Pet Nutrition
Nutrition
As my personal journey led me into exploring the realms of TCM Food Therapy, I found I needed to know even more about nutrition.
I walked into stores and gazed at the plethora of commercial foods, attractively packaged with catchy words and phrases and I wanted to know what was really in those bags or cans of foods. What were my patients eating and how could I give advice to make their lives better through a proper diet?
With diet and nutrition, every individual has their own journey and this impacts what pet owners feeds their pet. Regardless of my recommendation, be it Prescription, commercial or homemade diets they will feed their pets based on intuition, lifestyle, Dr. Google’s advice or a pet store’s recommendations.
And the only way I can help is to provide information so now they make informed choices. This bit of soul searching on my part to understand what different people feed their pets and most importantly to not judge their decisions led me to getting a certification in Veterinary Nutrition.
It has been and still is a humbling experience ! I understood how little we know about nutrition especially for cats and how diverse individual physiology can be !! Throw epigenetics into the fray and it gets even more confusing 🙂
Yes, I offer nutrition advice and create recipes taking care to make it Complete and Balanced. However, I will be learning more and more with the years to come, getting more certifications in Clinical nutrition and learning and growing.
I am not a Board-certified nutritionist but I have a passion for understanding nutrition and paving the way for enhanced vitality and health through diet.
If you would like to embark on this journey with me, I welcome and invite you to come to Phoenix Rising and have a conversation about diet.
Being a busy veterinarian, I do not have the ability to do this alone. Therefore I have Mackenzie who has trained in nutrition to assist me with each and every recipe. She may not be a veterinarian but her knowledge is growing in leaps and bounds with every single day and with every single patient.
