Vaccine Titre Testing
In-house Vaccine Titre Testing
Dr. Radica Raj offers in-house vaccine titre testing to determine if your pet has adequate antibodies available against Distemper, Adenovirus and Parvovirus.
A very small amount of blood is drawn from your dog and results are usually ready in 30 minutes.
While there is a titre kit available for cats, this only tests for one disease which is Feline Panleukopenia.
If there is adequate demand for the feline titre test, Dr. Raj will be more than happy to order these in.
What is Vaccine Titre Testing?
A titer test is a laboratory blood test. It checks for the presence of certain antibodies in the blood stream. Testing involves drawing blood from a patient and checking it in a lab for presence of bacteria or disease. It is often used to see if someone is immune to a certain virus or needs vaccination.
When your pet is vaccinated, the body creates an immune response, in part, by producing specific antibodies against the antigens in the vaccine. Thereafter, the immune system is able to quickly recognize that attacking microorganism and launch an effective defense. When your pet’s vaccine titer test comes back as being ‘protective,’ they should be able to fight off the exposed disease in question.
